This 9-month pre-apprenticeship program in partnership with Pallet Shelters to expose Pallet employees to opportunities and careers in the construction industry.
Fall Quarter –
Students will gain a foundational understanding of construction site and shop safety, along with an introduction to trade mathematics, safe operation of hand and power tools, blueprint reading, and rigging. The course also covers job site communication, construction materials, and proper handling techniques. CPR/First Aid training, Forklift user training, MEWP awareness, and OSHA 10 certification are included. The schedule may be adjusted at the instructor's discretion.
Winter Quarter –
Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of the carpentry and plumbing trades. The course will cover basic framing concepts, including floor, wall, ceiling, and roof construction. Students will also explore the basics of plumbing, focusing on water systems, waste drains, vents, and the materials and fittings commonly used in the industry. The course will utilize hands-on lab training to enhance students’ understanding of concepts learned. Additionally, the course will emphasize safe practices for using hand and power tools specific to each trade. The schedule may be adjusted at the instructor's discretion.
Spring Quarter –
Students will gain foundational skills in electrical systems and HVACR (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) systems. The course provides an essential overview of core concepts and practical techniques needed for beginners entering the electrical and HVACR fields. By the end of the course, students will have a foundational understanding of basic electrical theory, safety practices, residential electrical services, conduit bending, and an introduction to HVACR systems. Hands-on labs will be utilized to further enhance students’ understanding of concepts discussed during the quarter.
